I Loved Today!

Hi,
Today is  Joseph Smith's birthday, we didn't do anything special, just remembered it .
Today was my day off, wow did I enjoy it!    I washed the kitchen floor and scrubbed the stove, went for a wonderful walk, washed my car bought material and made curtains for the kitchen and made a small quilt and gingerbread cookies, I loved today.
I am going to take pictures tomorrow so I can send to you . I hear you are getting together tomorrow night and I can talk to you .
I was in the show tonight, and I think I'm loving it!!   who knew!
Living with another sister is, INTERESTING !

We had the most incredible Christmas church meeting on Sunday

Today is Tues . We had the most incredible Christmas church meeting on Sunday.
Our choir was so incredible, it sounded like the tabernacle choir. The speaker was the temple pres. of Nauvoo and a program. The sacrament meetings are so fulfilling I would be sad if I missed one.
We have about 100 missionaries here now, we will get another 100 before June.
Christmas morning we will go to a site, yes people come on Christmas too!! then we will all meet and have a Christmas dinner together. Christmas Eve we sing on the Temple front stairs, SNOW or NO SNOW, Ice or no ,Wind or no!!! .
The geese fly over 20 times a day I understand we are in the main migration path, they say in spring we will have goslings all over the place. We also have Hawks and Eagles.
This is great, I am singing all the time and I think I am getting my singing voice back.
I am so sad about the Provo Tabernacle, If I understand God, something good will come out of this, wait and see!!?!.
      I don't know who see s this blog ?
The other missionaries are terrific people we pull together and I am so Happy.
Bye for now.
LOVE SISTER JANET

Heber C. Kimble

  Friday December 17,2010
Well, after loosing 2 emails yesterday that I wrote You,  I went to town on my preparation day " P " day for short. They had a sale at walmart on laptops, and Yes there was only ONE left !!!!  it's a Toshiba.    I am having a struggle with  it(of the minds) and I think its going to win!

It is beautiful here today- the ground is  covered in snow the sites are all decorated so cute (green boughs and red bows) I feel like it is really 1800's.

So what I tried to tell you yesterday and lost was about Heber C. Kimble , I helped at his brick home  yesterday, what a history .   Heber and his wife ,Vilate joined the church with Brigham Young and his wife in 1832 in N.Y.. They moved to Missouri for 6 years. They were driven out by mobs and lost everything, they went to Quincy and were helped, then to Commerce, now called Nauvoo and he built a leanto out of an old stable, she had her 4 child there( this child , at 17 was one of the young men that carried the survivors of the Martin hand cart through the Sweet water river and saved their lives, He died a few years later from the effects of it).     Heber built  a small log cabin for winter then a larger one then he built this brick home and went on missions in his spare time !! One mission was with Brigham Young to England.   The reason the Mormons left was because they did not want any more killings and they would not deny the Book of Mormon.  Others might say  WHY, and I know they had a personal revelation that it was pure and true and I know, once you have had that you have to hold to it .    That is what is so different about  this gospel, We believe in personal revelation for ourselves, I don't think any other religion even talks about that.
Well I am off to the sewing room today to help others sew their dresses , it is set up nice I'm just glad I only have to be there every so often .
I am going to close before I loose this, Last night I lost part of the letter AGAIN!!(3rd time)I'll learn.
 LOVE TO ALL,

I wrote a long letter today and lost it. Dang!

Janet  wrote 2 long letters on Thursday, and lost both of them, the computer she was on had a time limit and she didn't know it. So she went to the store and bought herself a laptop, Hopefully next week she won't have any trouble.

She only had time to write a very short letter this week.

It is about 7 deg. here and I love to go out with out a coat and do a 5 min brisk walk- freeze out -it makes me feel ALIVE --- the snow and cold are like a wonder land ,. My letter was about Heber C. Kimble -I was at his house yesterday and read all about him and that was what the letter was about    DARN !
         LOVE, SIS. Howard

I am enjoying the mission and learning so much

I couldn't possibly type every thing I have to say  . You all know me so ignore the spelling !!!
I am enjoying this  mission so much!  I don't have all of my pioneer dresses made yet !
Well we don't get much free time - I am at different homes (of the pioneers) every day for 6 hrs. and then at night we put on a play -vinettes  of old Nauvoo.
I am learning so much and feeling so deeply for what others gave up .   You know I've always loved History and I am getting so much of it. I absolutely love giving tours,  I really feel the  heart of those that lived  here .
I have taken a few photos with my new camera  I still can't really use it -others have to show me how.   I will learn how to send  them some day ???
I am very Happy. I have gone to the Nauvoo Temple  3 times so far, whenever I get a chance.   Jodi - I went through for my relative you liked . (did inititory for her and felt the spirit)
Well it is my day off and I have soooo much to do.  I have to drive to Keokuk about 12 miles to buy food , material & etc. ( my day off is Thurs. )
I do miss all of you . I wish I could be home for 1 hour a week .   I  need someone to go to my house and switch off or unplug my TV power cord.
 LOVE YOU ALL ,
    SISTER HOWARD

Driving to Nauvoo

Brad had the opportunity to drive to Nauvoo with his Mom. They left on Thursday(Thanksgiving day) and arrived in Nauvoo on Saturday, they drove along the pioneer trail and visited alot of the historic church sites along the way.  They stopped at Winter Quarters, Far West, Adam-ondi-Ahman, Haun's mill, Carthage Jail and then they had a day to visit the sites in Nauvoo.

Brad was happy to spend this time with his mom and see where she would be living and what she will be doing.

Opening Mission Call

Janet got her mission call on November 9th and reported to the MTC on November 15th. She had a lot of preparing to do and not much time to do it in. She had to leave for Nauvoo 2 days after she got out of the MTC.
We are so excited for her and very proud of her.
